Speak Now! media campaign

The “Speak Now” campaign is part of thes an effort of the Colorado Department of Human Services, Office of Behavioral Health, statewide initiative focused on implementing evidence-based substance abuse prevention practices, policies and approaches that build local and state prevention infrastructure in Colorado.

The Campaign was developed to address underage drinking, and more specifically, binge drinking among Colorado youth. In fact, Colorado ranks 9th highest in the nation in terms of binge drinking among teenage youth.

The Campaign aims to urge parents and guardians to speak to teens about the dangers of underage drinking resulting in eliminating or at least reducing the binge drinking disparity among teenage youth statewide.

Campaign materials and outreach efforts are dispersed through a variety of outlets such as through statewide coalitions, press releases, print ads, radio and television spots, as well as downloadable website materials for parents to use when speaking to teens about underage drinking.

An annual statewide survey is administered to gauge the success of the Campaign. Campaign results are provided to the Colorado Department of Human Services, Division of Behavioral Health that administers the campaign on behalf of the funder, the Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration/Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (SAMHSA/CSAP).
